Bircan Unver

BIRCAN ÜNVER, Founding President of The Light Millennium (re-elected), TV-Web Producer, Head
NGO Representative at the United Nations Department of Public Information, and
Ambassador of Peace and Goodwill for Anuvibha (Jaipur, India)

Bircan has been Executive Producer and Director of the LM’s e-publications and public programs in its all aspects, and The Light Millennium Television (LMTV) Series and Specials since its inception (1999), and is the Head NGO Representative of the organization at the United Nations Department of Public Information since its association in 2005, and took the lead in its application process. As an advocate for “freedom of expression” and “public benefit media,” she has compiled and e-published over 57 e-issues (both in English and Turkish) and produced over 130 original television programs, garnering several awards. Developed, organized/co-organized, presented/co-presented, over 65 public events.
She has lectured on freedom of expression, UNDHR Article#19, public access television, women-girl rights, UN, MDGs and presentations on the LM and LMTV. She was member of the Media Subcommittee of the 65th UN DPI/NGO Conference, co-directed the panel “A quest to fulfill body and mind Post-2015: Is genetically modified food a solution?” with Julie Mardin at the conference, and was also member of the Planning Committee of the 2nd and 3rd UN High Level Forum on the Culture of Peace (2013, 2014). She was one of the speakers of the Anuvrat International Conference (Sept. 2014 - Delhi, India), and also recently panelists of the "WWI: Historical Rights and Wrongs" Conference at Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada (March 13-14, 2015). She is also the Founding President ISIKBINYILI.ORG Multi-Media, Culture and Social Development and Support Association based in Istanbul, Turkey, which officially formed in January 2010, as the sister and Turkish counterpart of the LM. Bircan holds a master's degree (M.A.) in Media Studies from the New School University (1999, NYC), and B.A. in Fine Arts from the Mimar Sinan University (1988, Istanbul). http://www.lightmillennium.org

Ambassador Carlos Garcia

H.E. Mr. CARLOS GARCIA GONZALEZ, Former Permanent Representative of El Salvador to the UN and UN Director at the Enviro Board Latin America - Joined during the Nov. 21, 2014 Annual Meeting

H.E. Amb. Carlos Garcia was appointed as Director of United Nations Relations for Enviro Board Corporation and Executive Board Member last September 26, 2014. He is also Founder & CEO of CG Global Consultant since July 1, 2014 and Vice President of The Light Millennium Organization since November 21, 2014. H.E. Amb. Carlos Garcia is a career diplomat fro El Salvador that served his country in the United Nations from July 1, 1996 to June 17, 2014, in different positions and ranks being his last one as Permanent Representative of El Salvador to the United Nations.
H.E. Amb. Garcia was in charge of the political, economic, financial, social, peace and security, peace building, humanitarian, environmental and huan rights issues throughout his larger career in New York.
In this position, H.E. Amb. Garcia was President of the Fourth Committee of the General Assembly (Special Political and Decolonization) 2013; Vice-President of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) 2014; Vice-Chairan of the Commission on the Status of Women in the period 2014-2015 (He also served as Vice-Chairan of the CSW 2012-2013).
Previously, he served as Vice President of the Executive Board of UNDP-UNFPA UNOPS in 2011; Vice-Chairman of the Second Committee during the 64th session of the General Assembly; Vice-President of the Third Committee during the 56th and 59th sessions of the General Assembly; Vice-Chairman of the former Executive Board of INSTRAW 2004-2006 and Rapporteur of the Joint Executive Boards field visits to Azerbaijan (2005) and Guatemala (2004).
He holds a Special Course's degree in International Relations fro Diplomatic Academy of Madrid (Spain) and a bachelor's degree in International Relations from the University of El Salvador. Ambassador Carlos Garcia is married with Ines Elizabeth Oviedo de Garcia and has a daughter, Melanie Elizabeth Garcia Oviedo.

Prof. Sultan Catto


SULTAN CATTO, Vice President of The Light Millennium(re-elected), Professor in the Ph.D. Program in Physics at the CUNY Graduate School, Director of the Department of Natural Sciences at Baruch College, Adjunct Associate Research Scientist in Henry Krumb School of Mines, Columbia University, and a visiting Professor at the Rockefeller University

Sultan Catto, Ph.D., Yale University (Mathematical Physics), has made important contributions to the development of elementary particle physics particularly in the area of dynamical supersymmetry, and in mathematics in the areas of special functions (confluent hypergeometric type), spectral theory of automorphic forms and octonionic projective geometries with applications to quantum mechanics in higher dimensional space-times. He had been the Executive Officer of the PhD Program at the CUNY Graduate School from 2001 till 2008. He is also an editorial board member of the “Journal of Generalized Lie Theory and Applications.” He has published well over a hundred articles in physics and mathematics journals and has edited three books of proceedings of international conferences in mathematical physics. He is a winner of the Benjamin W. Lee Award given by the International School of Subnuclear Physics (Ettore Majorana) in Sicily.
In addition to his distinguished and internationally respected work in theoretical physics, Sultan Catto is a gifted poet. He says that he doesn’t need much sleep, so when he needs a break from the theories of physics, he starts a poem.
Has been invited to read his work at the Seventh Quarry Events in Wales, at the home of Dylan Thomas, in October 2009. He was nominated for the 2009 Pushcart Prize by the editor of the Seventh Quarry Swansea Poetry Magazine.

Dr. Hande Subasilar

Dr. HANDE SUBASILAR, Art Historian, Secretary General of The Light Millennium (re-elected) and NGO Representative at the United Nations Department of Department of Public Information.

Dr. Subasilar is involved with The Light Millennium since April 2013. As a NGO Representative at the United Nations Department of Public Information she has attended many important UN briefings and forums and she has been writing reports to publish in the Light Millennium’s web site. She has a Ph.D. degree from Art History Program of Social Sciences Institute at the Istanbul Technical University. Dr. Subasilar worked as a lecturer at several universities in Turkey including Istanbul Technical University and Istanbul Kultur University. She had her B.A. from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Department of Art History and was accepted as a graduate student at the Istanbul Technical University where she received her M.A. and Ph.D. degrees. She has been living in New Jersey since 2011 and continuing her carrier as an independent art historian.

Mujgan Hedges

MÜJGAN HEDGES, Board Member and Treasurer of The Light Millennium (re-elected), NGO Representative at the United Nations Department of Public Information.

She has been involved with the Light Millennium since 2012. As an NGO Representative at the United Nations Department of Public Information, she has represented the organization in many UN meetings and raised funds for the organization as the Sponsorship Coordinator. Hedges holds a B.A. in Economics from Ankara University and an Associate Degree in Accounting. In the past, she has worked as a Senior Economist in the Undersecretariat and Foreign Trade Department of Turkey. Most recently, she has worked as an Accountant in the healthcare sector of VA; as a retiree, she has spearheaded efforts for a clean environment in a well-known Kadikoy Municipality of Istanbul. Over the years (years?), she has been a Chairperson and an active member of the American Turkish Association of DC, in charge of many cultural events and fundraising activities. She finds her passion in volunteering, as she values the importance of connecting with others and making a meaningful difference in others' lives.

Isa Alemdag - Portrait

ISA ALEMDAG, On-line Board Member (re-elected), IT Consultant, Entrepreneur, Founder/CEO of Horon Solutions, Information Technology (U.K.).

Educator, Instructor and Founder of The Nation of Turks, a research organisation and website dedicated to expanding international understanding of Turkish culture and history. Isa has been involved with The Light Millennium since August 2011. He acts as advisor to The Light Millennium on IT-related issues and is an on-line member and member of the Youth and Sports Committee. He has BSc Maths degree from Trabzon Black Sea Technical University, and a PgC in IT from Sheffield Hallam University. He is also a sports coach, fitness instructor and martial artist. He has been involved in cultural and sports related charitable work since high school: chiefly with the TLYD in Trabzon (Turkish Classical Music and Cultural Association) and Sayokan World Federation (International Martial Arts Association).

His passions is to contribute to the lives of others by way of training, coaching, teaching and helping them to live a mentally and physically healthy life throughout their lives.

   
Julie Mardin

JULIE MARDIN, Artist, Independent Researcher, and Content Coordinator and Banner-Flyer Designer of the Issue #30 and #31 of The Light Millennium.

She has exhibited her politically messaged art work exploring the marketing of violence, and information overload, nationally and internationally since 1996. She has been a regular researcher and contributor for The Light Millennium, providing overviews on previous dedication themes such as for Nazim Hikmet, Karen Armstrong and Arthur C. Clarke, and an essay on small farmers which was picked up by Gale textbooks in its 2006 anthology on World Hunger. She is currently the Content Coordinator for Issue #30 and 31, dedicated to Freedom of Information in the Genetically Modified Age. She has also covered the topic for the magazine, providing a general overview of the hazards and difficulties of independent scientists to conduct independent research, and has helped to develop and moderate the Light Millennium’s panel discussion “A Quest to Fulfill Body and Mind Post-2015: Is genetically modified food a solution?” that took place at the 65th UN DPI/NGO conference last August. The Light Millennium
THE LIGHT MILLENNIUM (LM): The(LM) is a non-religious, non-political, not-for-profit (501-c-3), non-governmental (NGO), independent public benefit multi-media and culture organization. The LM has become associated with the Department of Public Information of the United Nations effective (UN/DPI) on December 12, 2005. Officially formed in 2001, based in Queens, New York. On the Web since August 1999...
The LM was formed based on the first article of the United States Bill of Rights, Freedom of Speech, in conjunction with the United Nations’ Universal Declaration Article #19, on Freedom of Expression. It invites citizens of the world to submit, in an appropriate artistic medium, ideas and experiences that will help foster better understanding between people of different cultures and beliefs. The organization frequently presents ideas from the United Nations on its key issues as well as ideas from the all walks of life. Since LM’s association with the UN/DPI, channels its capacity and potential sources in support of the UN Vision, MDGs and with the same manner Beyond 2015 for the Sustainable “HUMAN” developments on its multiple platforms yet on the voluntary basis.
LM has collaborated with the Department of Public Information during the NY base UN-DPI/NGO conferences including the recent 65th UN DPI/NGO conference, in which it sponsored and presented the panel “A Quest to Fulfill Hunger of the Body and Mind Post-2015: Is genetically modified food a solution?” as well as with other major universities such as CUNY-GC, Baruch, Columbia, NYU, Princeton, Yale, Stevens Institute of Technology, and non-governmental, civil society organizations, as well as with several government agencies and member states of the UN for an event and/or LMTV based collaboration with such government entities as the Turkish Mission, Turkish Consulate General, NY Turkish Culture Office, Swiss Consulate General, the Sri Lankan, El Salvadoran, Kazakhstani, Macedonian missions... Further, LM is a member of the Global Movement for the Culture of Peace (GMCoP) and actively took part in both the 2013 and 2014 UN High Level Forum on the Culture of Peace. www.lightmillennium.org
